It feels like this song has taken a lifetime to put together satisfactorily, and I can say with relief that it is almost ready for the public's ears. I hope those who have heard it before will be open to the new arrangement. Most of it is due to the band's dynamic, since we extended it by a good minute through jamming, which was later honed into thought-out, repeatable parts. K's drumming has given the song a new drive. It makes it possible for me to drop out the rhythm guitar for long stretches and just glide over the bass and drums with melodic lines on keyboards or guitar. Some of the ideas for the arrangement I hit upon over the past few days, and most everything I tried seemed to work. There's nothing like a deadline for surprising up some creativity. I plan to return to Chimpanzee Studio tomorrow to finalize the audio after listening to it another few dozen times and getting feedback from K&R. After today's four-hour session with Y.Y., there remain a few parts whose volume or panning needs to be adjusted.
The song still needs an accompanying video, which will take another week of dedicated work to accomplish, but we're fortunate to have a host of volunteers to help us make it.
p.s. Here is the studio recording.
